๐Ÿฆฆ Getting started

What is OtterLearn?+

OtterLearn is a math learning app for kids ages 5โ€“12. A friendly otter guides your child through every concept using one proven path โ€” Show โ†’ Guide โ†’ Try โ†’ Practise โ€” so they actually understand the math, not just memorize it.

What ages is it for?+

OtterLearn is designed for children ages 5โ€“12, covering everything from early counting through to early algebra โ€” including geometry, fractions and decimals, aligned to grade level.

How do I set up my child?+

You create a parent account, then add a child profile with a nickname, age, and grade. A short diagnostic builds a personalized learning path around what your child needs. You stay in control of everything from the parent area.

๐Ÿ”’ Privacy & safety

What data do you collect about my child?+

As little as possible. We ask for a nickname โ€” not your child's real name โ€” along with their age and grade so we can pitch lessons correctly. We don't collect a child's photo, email, or contact information. Parents set up and manage everything.

Do you show ads or sell data?+

Never. OtterLearn shows no ads to children and does not sell anyone's personal information. It's a calm, kid-appropriate space built for learning.

Is the AI tutor safe? Are conversations used to train AI?+

Safety is built in โ€” every tutor conversation passes through a safety check, and the otter keeps things kid-appropriate. Your child's tutor conversations are not used to train third-party AI models.

Where can I read your full privacy policy?+

Our full privacy policy lives at otterlearn.app/privacy. For any specific question, email hello@otterlearn.app.

๐Ÿค– The AI tutor

How does the tutor help without giving away answers?+

When your child is stuck, the otter explains the idea and offers a nudge โ€” but it never just hands over the answer. The goal is for kids to reach it themselves, which is what builds real understanding and confidence.

Is there a limit on tutor help?+

The Free plan includes core lessons to try things out. Unlimited AI tutor help is included on the Plus and Family plans.

๐Ÿ“Š The parent area

What is the parent PIN?+

The parent area โ€” your dashboard, settings, and billing โ€” is protected by a parent PIN, so children can't wander into it. You set the PIN when you first open the parent area.

I forgot my parent PIN. What do I do?+

On the PIN screen, tap Forgot PIN?. We'll email a verification code to your account email โ€” enter it, then set a new PIN. Any trouble, email hello@otterlearn.app.

What can I see in the parent dashboard?+

You'll see what your child has mastered, where they're stuck, and how much time they've spent โ€” no guesswork.

๐Ÿ“š Curriculum

Which curricula do you cover?+

OtterLearn covers grade-level math from counting through early algebra โ€” including geometry, fractions and decimals. You can align your child's learning to a curriculum during setup, and see how they map to it on the curriculum screen.

How does curriculum alignment work?+

Each lesson connects to specific curriculum expectations, so you can see exactly which grade-level concepts your child has practised and mastered.

๐Ÿ’ณ Subscription & billing

What's free, and what's paid?+

The Free plan ($0) gives you core lessons and the full Show โ†’ Practise journey to try things out. Plus ($7.99/mo) unlocks the full curriculum, unlimited AI tutor help, a personalized learning path, and the full parent dashboard for one learner. Family ($12.99/mo) adds up to 4 child profiles with per-child learning paths.

How do I upgrade?+

Open the parent area, go to Settings โ†’ Subscription, and tap Upgrade. Your plan unlocks immediately.

I reinstalled the app โ€” how do I get my subscription back?+

In Settings โ†’ Subscription, tap Restore purchases. This re-links the subscription tied to your app store account.

โฑ๏ธ Screen time

Can I limit how long my child uses the app?+

Yes. In Settings โ†’ Screen time you can set a daily time limit per child, with sensible defaults suggested for their age.

What are quiet hours and forced breaks?+

Quiet hours pause notifications during times you choose. A forced break reminder gently pauses a session with a short break message, so kids step away and rest their eyes.
